What is Ayurveda?

The practice of Ayurveda started in ancient India and has been practiced for centuries. Ayu means “life” and veda means “science” or “knowledge”.

In Ayurveda, health is defined as an active goal of wellness. It extends beyond the physical body to the mind, heart, senses and spirit. When in balance one will experience physical vitality, mental alertness, emotional bliss, sexual stamina and spiritual awareness.

The ayurvedic approach to health is life encompassing, including your daily routine, including your diet, exercise, and environment with the goal of bringing balance. Without balance, a person becomes susceptible to disease. Age, environment, stress, poor lifestyle choices or dietary excesses and emotional strains can all cause imbalances in your body and mind. Ayurveda utilizes many diet recommendations to restore balance. This could include ayurvedic herbs, specific foods or spices to maintain good health. In addition, Ayurveda encompasses therapies such as massage, color/gem therapy, marma therapy (inc. acupressure), massage, yoga, meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises) and panchakarma (cleaning therapies).

When a person goes to an Ayurvedic Practitioner, the healer’s first goal is to find out an individual’s constitution (to be explained in Ayurvedic Doshas materials). Secondly, the practitioner must determine why the person has particular symptoms, based on their lifestyle factors. Keep in mind, two people can exhibit the same symptoms, but the root factors behind them may be entirely different. The Ayurvedic Practitioner goes over any symptoms and imbalances in order to uncover the cause. Then a direct treatment to the cause determined instead of treating the disease alone.

Prevention of disease through lifestyle balancing is the primary and most important goal of Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic Consultations$200.00 – 90 mins.
$140.00 - 60 mins.

During your Ayurvedic consultation, we will address your health concerns from a physical, emotional, and spiritual perspective. Based upon this assessment, a personalized body/mind/spirit health-enhancing practices, treatments, and/or food supplements can be suggested. Diagnostic decision making in Ayurveda is a complex process, as we are unique individuals. An Ayurvedic consultation includes three diagnostic methods (trividha pariksha): inspection, interrogation, and palpation. Inspection involves observation of the body parts, for example, skin, hair, eyes, and tongue. Many Ayurvedic treatments — like meditation and individualized diets — are therefore aimed at keeping a person healthy (a state of individual homeostasis), not curing them of disease. This healthy state helps the body to correct its own imbalances. Follow-up visits will be booked as needed by practitioners.
